STD Tests

Many sexually transmitted diseases (STD) have no symptoms. They affect both heterosexual and homosexual people. Some sexually transmitted diseases can only by diagnosed clinically but there are many for which there are specific STD tests.

The doctors at Hanover Medical Centre can help with screening, diagnosis and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. If necessary, we will refer you to specialist centres for sexually transmitted diseases. STD tests using blood samples are used for HIV, Syphilis, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Swabs or urine can be used in STD tests for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea.

Although not all sexually transmitted diseases are curable, most are treatable. The benefits of STD testing and early treatment are many:

  • Preventing progression within yourself
  • Preventing spread to others
  • Protecting your fertility
  • Screening for cancers associated with sexually transmitted infections

Hepatitis B is a very common sexually transmitted disease for which there is a vaccine. This is available at Hanover Medical Centre.

We are open 8am-7pm Monday to Thursday and 8am-3pm on Friday.

Please call 01 678 6086 or email reception@hanovermedical.ie to schedule an appointment with one of our doctors.
